Some information on the Barbé Cup : 

The Barbé was run for the first time in Mauritius in 1902 and takes it name from Laurent Alphonse Barbé, who was the Secretary to the Mauritius Turf Club from 1867 to 1893 (picture above).  He was said to be a very honest man.  The Golden Cup (above) was first offered in 1956 by Mr Henri Giblot Ducray.

No, it was not the July in Durban, it was at the Champ de Mars in Port Louis, Mauritius - Guests at the Crown Lodge !

It's magic...from your balcony, your glass of champagne in your hands, this is what you get... the bell rings, the horses rush out of the stalls and ... you just relax and watch the race. If you are lucky your horse can win just a few metres from where you stand !

"Not to be missed!"

What a treat, my partner loves a flutter so we decided to book a VIP day at the races on Saturday 20th May. Dress code is smart, long trousers for men. Pick up at our hotel was prompt, when we got there we were met by Jacques and his team, our hosts, they are amazing. The drinks flowed freely, munchies seemed to turn up every 30 mins or so, his team talked me through the race card and previous form, etc. The box is right across from the finishing line, to hear the crowd roaring as the horses came in was amazing. I was invited to the paddock and jockey weigh in, my partner got to follow an actual race in a jeep (this made his day). We would loved to have booked again on the day we were leaving to return home but the times just didn't work for us This was just one of those days that I will always remember and look back on in many years to come with very fond memories Book, you will not regret it

NINE RACES THIS SATURDAY 20TH MAY - SEE EVERYTHING AS IT HAPPENS...

The Racing Association Mauritius Derby Trial Cup 4 years old - 1400M - Group 3 will be run at 15H25 and the A.E.P.S. President Trophy - 3 years old - 1400 M will be run at 14H50.

Some useful information : The Racing Association represents the interests of race horse owners in seven region in South Africa and includes news, membership information and training agreements.

A.E.P.S. represents the interests of race horse owners in Mauritius and has been created 20 years ago. Its members are always reminded of and invited to follow and apply the laws in order to remain on the right track.

At the Crown Lodge, life is not only good but colourful... last Saturday your preferred host Jacques was in comapny of the  'Ladies in Blue'... Well earned few minutes 'off duty' for Jacques who never stops to make sure his guests are well looked after !

As usual the guests at The Crown Lodge will not stop smiling... because their glasses are always full and the snacks fresh from the oven.  All that in front of the finishing line and winning post !

If you wish to go down to the jockey area and see them get weighed etc...just tell Jacques.  Your wish will be accomplished at the second...

Our guests are very lucky; they can, with Jacques as their guide, visit special places like the  'judges lodge' or meet with the top management! Below our guests meeting with the Asssistant General Manager, Mr Khalid Rawat...

Champ de Mar was packed (always lovely to see) but Jacques and his colleagues ensured that we were escorted in and out and the box was informal and relaxed but yet very hospitable. THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY CUP (DRAPERS MILE)

ST PIERRE PIERREFONDS AIRPORT - 150TH ANNIVERSARY CUP

The highlight tomorrow, Saturday 29th April, will be the remittance of the 150th anniversary cup. A little bit of history on the subject : this race has been organised for the first time in 1962 in line with the 150th anniversary of the Mauritius Turf Club.  The winner of this race was Demdyke with jockey Joe Gilmore on its back...  The souvenir photo below is Mr Tom Vickers offering the cup to Mr Radhamochun Gujdahur, owner of Demdyke...

JOCKEY RAYMOND DANIELSON OF PERDREAU TRAINERS

Raymond Danielson will make his debuts this Saturday.  This South African jockey arrived early this week and, during training sessions on Thursday, showed his skills on Olympic Bolt, Trackmaster, Castle, Sunset Breeze and Forward Drive, amongst others...  

'I AM VERY THRILLED TO RIDE IN MAURITIUS'... 

These words came from young apprentice, Jockey Kersley Ramsamy, who opened his account on our turf during the 4th meeting... 'my best chance was Black Tractor'... 'Concerning Alpha Pegasi, I did give him a good chance according to the draw and winning on him was a bonus for me'...

THIRD MEETING - THE T PRINTERS 25TH ANNIVERSARY CUP

The South African Brandon Lerena ended the 3rd meeting with a 100% record as Scotsnog justified his status as favourite in the main race on Saturday 08th April.  Happy Brandon below 😅

WHO CAUGHT ATTENTION AT TRAINING SESSIONS THIS WEEK?

Answeringenesis, who won the inaugural meeting seems to be in even better condition.  Entree, also a winner at the first meeting, remains in good nick.  The following new ones also caught attention : Elysian Park, Storm Clipper, Redwood Valley, Mexamore, Malak El Moolook, Victory Team, Promissory, Baron Bellet, Glorious Goodwood, New Hampshire...  So watch out on Saturday 15th !

WATCHING TOP CLASS RACING 

The Crown Lodge is located on the 1st floor and has its own private viewing balcony direclty overlooking the winning post.  You will be seduced by stunning views... particularly when the horses approach the final straight.

THE PARADE RING

The Box has easy access to the Parade Ring... Our team will be glad to escort you there when you wish.

OUR HOSPITALITY PACKAGE

On arrival, you will be me met by Jacques himself for a breifing before you are escorted to your box by one of the hostesses.  Our full day package includes all your food and a complimentary bar : unlimited beers, wines, soft drinks, selected spirits, champaign !  Hostesses will pass trays with homenade hot snacks and will go to the bar and bring your drinks if you do not wish to leave your comfort.  Just before the 6th race, our celebrity host, Jacques will be personally serving a traditional Mauritian food.
